The present day Adaminaby was moved half a century ago for the construction of Lake Eucumbene. The original township is now under water at Old Adaminaby. Adaminaby is also the home of the “Big Trout” as well as the location for the movie “Phar Lap”.
Located in the Southern Monaro, surrounded by lush farming lands and extensive rivers and creeks. In these rivers you will also see platypus especially in the Platypus Sanctuary on the Bombala River within the racecourse reserve.
This historic village once had a corrugated dirt road which linked it to Cooma and the coast. It was three times the size of today’s town and was the centre for local farmers. Today Nimmitabel has a number of boutique shops along the main street and is famous for its old flour mill.
Town is famous for the surrounding boulders that have been shaped and characterized by the weather over millions of years.
